As the government crumbles...

I write this in front of CBC, where a giddy-looking Peter Mansbridge informs me that the Alliance of Others (NDP, Bloc and Tories - strange bedfellows, indeed) have voted to demolish the feeble Liberal minority that has led our country for the last year and a half. And so, it appears our political representatives will be spending their holiday seasons glad-handling, sign-installing and sound-byting. Ah, yes. An election campaign. Just what we all wanted for Christmas.

At the risk of sacrificing my journalistic credibility, I can't confess to knowing too much about the whole affair. I've had to do a bit of research about non-confidence motions, and still don't exactly know why this is such a crucial issue at this very second. But it's interesting stuff. And while I hate the idea of having my Christmas specials interrupted to hear some bland white guy blather on about his platform, I'm kind of glad we live in a country where this sort of thing can happen.

It'll be interesting to see what happens. We're stuck between a truly horrible leader, a reprehensible, dead-eyed Right Wing asshole, a slick seperatist who wants to leave the country, and Saucy Jack. Given the circumstances, you can hardly blame most Canadians for being so apathetic.

  • I know what you mean. Has there been no seriously inspired mind to emerge from a generation other than these turkeys?

Where are the bright minded idealists who were tired of all the corruption from years back?

Have we nothing new to offer? I say the country doesn't vote in anyone with gray hair. And we know about your Just For Men, Mr. Harper.

  • I have to admit that I am one of those apathetic few who, at the last minute always attempts to make an educated vote...as a woman, I feel is is our duty to those before us who didn't have a voice...but that's a separate issue...In the case of the coming Elexmas, however, I might be moved to a play a more proactive role...especially if CBC cancels anymore Coronation Street for their damn coverate of Parliament Hill (arrgghh! - who's with me?)

  • Dude, I recently spent a very confusing Sunday morning watching that show. I couldn't look away. It's like crack - ugly, convoluted, British crack.
