The ides of November

With all the hurlyburly of late, how's a lass supposed to find time to post?

All told, it's been a great week. We're nipping on the heels of autumn here, with only a few stubborn leaves clinging to the maple outside my living room window. I can feel winter coming, and you know what? I'm okay with it. It won't be as cold here as it was up north, and besides, I have a stylish new jacket that will make me forget, however temporarily, about the frigid climate. But I digress. I've been having a bit of a good time of it for several reasons, listed in no order other than perhaps awesomeness:

1. My housemate and I took a day off on Friday. We walked down Queen West on a gorgeously crisp November day, sipping lattes and sopping up culture. After scooping some street meat on Spadina, we met up with my boyfriend to check out the Catherine the Great show at the AGO, which, carriages and thrones and cheeky opulence, oh my! An awesome home-cooked meal of chicken and risotto and a few hours of Beatles Anthology later, and we called it a spectacular day.

2. My ultimate frisbee team, affectionately and somewhat jockishly referred to as the "Dawgs," won the C division of the TCSSC intermediate-level fall league. That's right, we're the best of the worst. And despite touching the frisbee a total of about three times all season (I'm not joking), I feel satisfied and pleased with this.

3. I was published in my first national magazine yesterday.

The latter is by far the most notable achievement of the three. It's exciting, to be certain, but also a little daunting. I keep fretting that there's something wrong with what I submitted, and that I'll be exposed in a massive scandal that will destroy my budding career. Of course, there's no reason for me to believe all that, as I've accurately documented my sources and written with as much integrity as possible, but still - I worry.

I think I need to develop more confidence in my work. Because, national magazine? After months of scraping by in this city? KICKASS!
