It's a partisan party!
Last night, my roommate and I trudged 15 blocks through a mild snowstorm to educate ourselves about our civic duties.
It was the third Parkdale/High Park All Candidate's meeting of the campaign, and the first I attended. There was a lot of platform-spewing, several personality attacks, and at least one irrational outburst from the incumbent Liberal MP, Sam Bulte.
Fun!
Rather than dawdle on about the individual points, I shall sum up each politician
Sam Bulte, Liberal (Incumbent): "We're not corrupt. Well, maybe we were, but we're really sorry about it. Here's an incoherent list of everything we've done. I WILL NOT BE SLANDERED!"
Beverley Something-Something, Communist League of Canada: "Farmers have it rough. Workers have it rough. There was a strike out west, somewhat recently. THE QUEBECOIS ARE OPPRESSED!"
Peggy Nash, NDP: "I'm smiley. And pleasant-looking. And I handle questions with grace and competence. YOU'RE GOING DOWN, BULTE!"
Jurig Klufas, Conservatives: "I don't know anything about animal rights, and will say as much in as many words. I think same-sex marriage sucks. Almost as much as the Liberals. YOU'RE ALL A BUNCH OF FILTHY NDPs!"
Robert Rishchynski, the Green Party: "I'm really quite articulate, you know. I have some excellent platform points. For the love of compost, we're a political party too! WON'T YOU PLEASE LET ME TALK?"
Nash was the most popular candidate, hands down. Rightfully so, I'd venture. She certainly came across the best out of anyone up there last night.
Three more days, people.
