Reasons 81 through 90 (by guest blogger extrordinaire, Boyfriend of GR)
81. I discovered podcasts, and podcasts got good. Coverville hit its 150th show; the Card Club on Lord Admiral Radio its 50th; CBC Radio 3 crossed 30. The hype that Sirius is desperately trying to generate over satellite radio highlights just how much our traditional way of understanding media has broken down.
82. Snowbird almost killed me. Twice. But I still owned Utah.
83. A good year for shadenfreude. Republicans got indicted, Catholics got Ratzinger, Blair got thumped, and that pouty little Mario wannabe is getting schooled by Ovechkin in the Calder race, thus screwing with the NHL Marketing Department's script, such as it is.
84. My girlfriend transforming herself from Elliot Lake Explorer to Grenadier Renegade was a welcome development, to be sure.
85. The White Stripes at the Molson Amphitheatre.
86. Hockey got better. The Leafs got worse, but hockey got better, and I think that a worthwhile trade-off, thus confirming my selflessness.
87. Live 8 was kind of a nice thought, wasn't it? Pity about the Barrie show, but on the whole, it was really quite lovely.
88. Quitting my job was pretty sweet.
89. Spontaneous bursts of growing up. Weddings here, engagements there; a friend of mine meets soulmate, becomes a daddy, moves into apartment with new family, finds career, and all in about three months.
90. There was a lot of bad stuff in 2005. Bombings, natural disasters, abuses of power, abuses of the environment, hate. But we can still make a list like this, and with 100 entries, no less. And what's New Year's for if not the hope that next year won't suck?
